Inspired by
The originals.
Countdown's letters round
Channel 4, from the French format Des chiffres et des lettres · Television, 1982
Nine letters, thirty seconds, and nowhere to hide.
Read the homage to Countdown's letters round
Doublets
Lewis Carroll · Parlour game, later Vanity Fair, 1877
Walk one word to another, a single letter at a time, never leaving English.
Read the homage to Doublets
- A small fixed rack of letters and the longest word you can find in it
- Ladders: one letter changed at a time, every rung a real word
- A round short enough to lose and start again
Both originals reset with every game. Word Forge means to be one puzzle a day, the same for everybody, with a streak that is worth protecting.
